Autoliv to build steering wheel factory in Sepsiszentgyörgy
Autoliv Románia Kft will establish the new plant in the production hall of a former textile factory, and production will start in the second half. The complete production process will be resettled to the Sepsiszentgyörgy plant, where production capacity will reach 3,000 steering wheels per day.
The Swedish manufacturer plans to market these parts to Central and Eastern European carmakers.
The company has not yet announced the value of the investment. From the 16 sites that were considered, the company has chosen Sepsiszentgyörgy because of the city’s well-trained workforce.
Within the first round, 60 people were employed, who will be sent to trainings in the company’s French, Turkish and Tunisian factories, and in the next phase they will train the rest of the employees.
Autoliv have been present in Romania since 1997, the company employs 3,500 people in its plants in Brasov, Lugos and Timisoara. The company has established research centres in Timisoara and Brasov, which develop and test seat belts and electronic safety equipment.
The Swedish company registered a turnover of 7.2 billion USD in 2010, and employs 43,000 people all around the world.
