AVL Hungary Technical Center Kft, the Hungarian subsidiary of Graz-based automotive developer AVL Group, is currently carrying out a staff expansion and various other developments at its site in Budapest, said CEO Dirk Jatzko on Wednesday at a press conference in Budapest. The subsidiary, operating in Hungary for ten years, is currently the employer of 111 people, more than 90% of which are highly trained engineers; this number will be increased to 150 by the end of the year. According to the plans, the company will invest 700,000 EUR in new technologies and to install new test stands.

The CEO claims that the company has a huge development potential in the Hungarian market, as while in 2002, their income was merely 135 million HUF, last year it reached 2.3 billion. This year, the company is planning to book 3.5 billion HUF income.

At the press conference the CEO emphasised: the Austrian developer company came to Hungary 10 years ago, because the country’s geographical location is in central position in Europe, it has favourable infrastructure and there is a high-class engineer training in the country, furthermore, it has 50 years of history in engine development for heavy-duty vehicles.

Mr Janetzko emphasised that they are striving for close connections with the Hungarian subsidiaries of international carmakers such as Audi and Daimler-Benz. The company will place more and more emphasis on the development of alternative and electric drive systems within their R&D activities in the future.

AVL sites around the world

AVL Hungary is carrying out the staff expansion in cooperation with Győr-based Széchenyi István University and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The company is trying to give opportunities for their soon-to-be engineers to expand their know-how during their school years.

Austrian AVL Group employ 5,000 people in 45 countries around the world. Their activities include the development of internal combustion drivetrain systems, transmission systems, electric and hybrid drivetrains, vehicle and engine simulation software and measuring apparatus and systems for engine and vehicle development.

AVL Hungary’s activities include drivetrain designing, static, dynamic and aerodynamic calculation, software development, improving the process of combustion, mechanical testing and engine setup.

The company group’s income in 2010 was 650 million EUR, 96% of which resulted from export. AVL spend at least the 12.5% of their income on research and development.
