Mercedes-Benz Kecskemét boosts production volume by third in 2014

In 2014, Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary increased its production volume to 150,000 units, plant director Thomas Geier said at the company´s annual financial results press conference.

Last week, Thomas Geier, plant director at Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft., held an annual financial report in Kecskemét along with the manufacturer's Hungarian importer.

Geier said that since its launch in 2012, the Kecskemét plant has produced over 300,000 vehicles.

Since May 2014, cars have been manufactured in three shifts, while last year the plant's headcount increased from 3,200 to 4,000.

Regarding the company's plans for this year Geier said that Mercedes Kecskemét is planning to manufacture more cars in 2015 than Audi Hungaria in Győr.

In 2014, the plant doubled its export volume to the U.S. with 27,000 units.

The Kecskemét plant exports cars to 180 countries. The factory has 100 direct suppliers, including 27 local automotive companies.

Ekkehard Philipp, CFO of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary, said: in 2014, the the net revenue of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary increased to EUR 2.8 million from EUR 2.1 million in 2013.

He added: investments in the Kecskemét plant will reach EUR 1 billion by the end of 2015.

Moreover, in 2015, the company will pay over EUR 5 million in taxes to the town of Kecskemét.
