Following the introduction of activities of Knorr-Bremse and its Hungarian subsidiary, Bíró pointed out that not only do potential Hungarian suppliers compete with German firms but also with companies from India, China and countries all over the world. The first step then is the assessment of cost competitiveness on a global level.

All prospective suppliers have to go through a procurement risk assessment process, where Knorr-Bremse examines the conditions of potential a long-term partnership.

Attila Bíró also talked about his experiences as the first non-German vice-president responsible for procurement between 2006 and 2010.

He said that of the international company's budget of EUR 1 billion, Knorr-Bremse Fékrendszerek Kft. is provided with EUR 50 million. The vast majority of parts and components manufactured in Hungary are exported to Germany, he added. Bíró said that generally speaking he is content with Hungarian suppliers.

As a success story Bíró pointed out how a company managed to conform to Knorr-Bremse's requirements against development and become a mature supplier.
