The British manufacturer, owned by the India-based Tata Group announced today that the company has signed an agreement with Austria-based Magna Steyr on the production of Jaguar cars in Graz.

No information has been disclosed regarding the exact models, but it is expected that the new cars to be manufactured at the Graz-based plant, currently producing the Mercedes G-Class, the Peugeot RCZ and the Mini Countryman and Paceman on a contractual basis, will include the Defender's successor.

Previous speculations included an electric Jaguar as well.

For months, Hungarian towns including Debrecen, Zalaegerszeg and Szombathely and the region of Győr had been considered candidates for the location of a new JLR plant before the announcemet with Magna Steyr was made.

The OEM confirmed that the company continues to serve the British industry. In 2014, one third of all 1.53 million cars manufactured in the UK were produced by Jaguar Land Rover.

In the next few years, the company will spend 5.6 million U.S. dollars on the development of new models and the expansion of its production capacity outside Great Britain.

Since last October, Jaguar has been manufacturing cars in China, and a new Brazilian plant, which will focus on supplying the South American continent, is currently under construction.
