Daimler builds second Mercedes plant in Kecskemét
The plant, conforming to Industry 4.0 production norms, will build front and rear-wheel drive cars, and it will also be ready for the production of alternative drive vehicles.
"The followings years will see investments to the value of €1 billion at the Kecskemét site.
"We will build an advanced, highly efficient production unit, a so-called Flex-Werk, in line with the Industry 4.0 philosophy that will enable us to build cars on different architectures and drivetrains," Markus Schaefer, board member for production for Mercedes-Benz Cars, said in a statement.
The manufacturer currently has 32 models in its product range, to be increased to 40 in the short term.
Preparations will commence this year, while mass production is expected to start by the end of the decade. The investment will create around 2,500 new jobs, Daimler said.
