Autopro visits Audi Hungaria’s V6 engine production unit

We paid a short visit to Audi Hungaria Kft.´s engine production department responsible for the manufacture of V6 diesel engines and we also had a glance at the 4-cylinder petrol production line.

Audi manufactures over 235 engine types in Győr; 4 to 12-cylinder engines with a performance range from 86 to 610bhp.

According to a report published in March, more than 8,100 engines are made every day at Audi Hungaria's Győr-based production unit. In 2013, the company manufactured 1,925,636 engines.

We also took a look at the production of 4-cylinder engines

The V6 department we visited produces 876 diesel power units every day. Nearly 300 people work here. V6 engines have been in production at the plant since 2004.

The department is located at a 3,304-square-metre production hall, equipped with a 392-metre long production line. The plant has a 5-day/3-shift operation. The department's maximum capacity is 1,000 units per day. The unit's takt time is 78.5 seconds, while lead time is 5 hours.

The 2,967 cm3 3-litre V6 has a 204 (450Nm) and a 250 bhp (550Nm) variant, the 3-litre evo has a performance of 211bhp (500Nm) or 272bhp (600Nm), while the 3-litre bi-turbo engine delivers 313bhp (650Nm).

Audi Hungaria delivers engines to Audi's Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm plants, Volkswagen Bratislava and the Porsche factory in Leipzig.
