In 2011, the city’s tax revenues amounted to 5.008 billion HUF, which increased to 5.870 billion in 2012.

Gábor Zombor says that the most important economical event in 2012 was the launch of the Mercedes plant along with several other significant investments that have already been handed over or are in progress.

The Mayor emphasised: among these job-creating projects the investments of Mercedes suppliers are the most important ones: Swiss-owned Phoenix Mecano group completed its 2.1-million HUF logistics centre and Munich-based Knorr-Bremse Fékrendszerek Kft also handed over its 5-billion-HUF factory and test lab, the construction of which began in December 2012.

Mr Zombor reminded: within the economic crisis, since 2009, Phoenix Mecano Kecskemét Kft. has created more than 500 jobs.

He pointed out: according to plan the Four Points by Sheraton Kecskemét Hotel and Conference Centre will be handed over in 2013, built by the KÉSZ group from 2.5 billion HUF, supported by an EU grant of 723 million HUF.

The Mayor reminded: the city introduced its economic incentive tax policy in 2007, resulting in 1.6 percent decrease in local venture tax, which is the lowest rate in Hungary. The growth is not slowing as several investments are in preparation phase, to be introduced in 2013, added Mr. Zombor.

The city’s transport infrastructure is improving as construction of the Northern ring commences in early 2013 and the project concerned with the construction of the intermodal station has won the second round of the tendering as well. Mr. Zombor emphasised: the intermodal station as well as the extension of current roads into 4-lane tracks inside the city could be finished by 2015.

It’s important to note that the procurement of 25 new, most likely hybrid buses has started, which means the new vehicles could join the city’s fleet already in 2013. Of course, it’s not yet decided which company will deliver the vehicles, their selection is carried out within public procurement procedure that has already begun, the Mayor added.
